How to Care for Succulents

How to Care for Succulents

If you’re looking for no-fuss houseplants that come in endless varieties, consider succulents.
Though incredibly easy to care for, you can’t neglect them altogether. Follow these simple tips to help your succulents thrive!

1. Light

Most succulents need about 6 to 8 hours of sunlight a day. Rotate the plants every so often for straight, even growth.

2. Water

Succulents don’t need a lot of water. Water plants only when the first inch or so of the soil is dry. Do not mist, or leaves may become moldy.

3. Repotting

Repot when succulents are looking unhealthy, or if the roots are coming out through the container’s drainage hole. Use potting soil designed for cactus, or add pumice, perlite or sand to regular potting soil. Give the plant a few days to acclimate to its new pot before watering.

4. Pests

Over-watering your succulents can attract gnats or mealy bugs. If you see either of these on your plants, spray the soil with rubbing alcohol to kill the bugs and their eggs.
